Metrology for World Class Manufacturing Awards 2000
Point Source
was winner in the Measurement for Manufacturing Excellence category with co-partners
Rover Group, Heriot-Watt University, Cybamatic and VAW Motorcast.
The jointly developed product, Photoform, was heralded as ‘a most impressive product’ by the judges. Photoform has revolutionized high accuracy shape acquisition for the automotive industry. Point Source developed and built the optical systems that allow Photoform to acquire data points in parallel. A whole field of 1.6 million points can be measured simultaneously. Surface measurement of an engineering model that might have taken weeks, can be performed in less than one day using Photoform. This technology is of huge benefit to the motor industry in particular, as the throughput for design of engine parts and car styling is greatly increased.
